Robot brushless Motors are a great solution for robotic arms and other applications that need high performance in a small package. They offer a wide range of advantages such as low power per unit weight, small size, and long lifespan.
They are used in all kinds of machines from vacuum cleaners and coffee machines to hard drives, printers, and hair dryers. They also work well for home automation projects.
Controlling a brushless motor requires an external controller to energize (or commute) the phases of the motor in the correct order to make the motor spin and turn. In general, the controller uses back EMF voltage from the motor phases or Hall Effect sensors to determine the commutation step.
A DC motor can be controlled in three ways: varying supply voltage, varying flux or varying the armature voltage and resistance. A computer-programmable speed control generally has user-specified options which allow setting low voltage cut-off limits, timing, acceleration, braking and direction of rotation.
The controller can also be controlled by a PWM pin on the microcontroller, or by using an H-Bridge to reverse the current flow to the motor. The H-Bridge circuit is a 4-transistor circuit that can be configured to provide a voltage in either direction of the motor.
These controllers are an essential part of the system since they provide real-time communication between the motor drivers and the controller. They transmit control information to the drivers in order to achieve dynamic compensations and efficient control effect.
