A BLDC motor is one of the most common types of motor used in motion-activated surveillance cameras, and it can be found in nearly all home appliances. Due to their low weight and high efficiency, they are a great choice for many applications.
They offer several advantages over traditional brushed motors, including brighter DC motors, higher torque to weight ratio, more torque per watt (efficiency increase), elongation, reduction, longer product lifespan (no brush and commutator wear), emitting sparks from commutators, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) DC brushless motor.
The key difference between a brushed motor and a brushless motor is the way the rotor and stator are energized. Instead of brushes, a commutator is used in brushless motors to provide directional current to a set of conductor windings.
This commutation takes place by electrically synchronizing the currents in each of the three phases of each winding. When the currents in any of the windings are switched to a High signal, it causes one of the magnets in the rotor to line up with the magnetic poles in the stator and produce torque.
Depending on how they are designed, a brushless motor can be either an inrunner or an outrunner. Inrunners have the stator on the outside of the rotor, while outrunners have the stator inside.
Regardless of whether they are inrunner or outrunner, BLDC motors can be paired with electronic controllers and sensors for control purposes. These controllers can be integrated into the motor to implement various motor controller functions, including varying loads, constant load and positional control applications.
